Summary
Weekend warriors set off in two canoes down a mystery-laden Georgia river---and discover a wilderness of terror. Director John Boorman sets them, and viewers, on the knife-edge of survival. Adapted by James Dickey from his novel and nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Picture. Special features includes 4-part 35th anniversary retrospectiveAt the behest of the Iron John-esque Lewis, the less adventuresome Ed, Bobby, and Drew agree to canoe down an uncharted section of the river before a dam project ruins the region. After warnings from the grimy, impoverished locals, the four men embark on their trip, exulting in the beauty of nature and the initial thrill of the rapids. The next day, however, things begin to take a turn for the worse when two of the men become separated from the others. Two rifle-wielding mountain men emerge from the woods and attack them. They are rescued by the others, but the attack irrevocably changes the tenor of the journey. As the river gets rougher and rougher, the men come to nightmarish grips with what it means to survive outside the safety net of "civilization." [Barnes & Noble]
