- The Cordillera is the most western geographic region in Canada. It includes British Columbia, the Yukon, southwestern Alberta, and part of the Northwest Territories, and the Coast and Rocky Mountains are major landforms. A Cordillera is a series of connected mountains, usually formed at the same time in earth's history. Here in the Cordillera region, there are many different ecozones ranging from shrubs, mosses and lichens in the northern and mountainous areas to sagebrush in the Okanagan Valley to giant, ancient cedars in the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. This region is home to many First Nations people such as Haida Gwaii, Salish and Tsimshian
