Summary
A scientific expedition was sent to the New World in 1735 to determine the exact size and shape of the earth. After 10 years of hardships and setbacks, it accomplished its mission, but another drama developed: a young member of the party fell in love with and married an upper-class, 13-year-old Peruvian girl. The couple became separated for 20 years, until in 1769, Isabel Gramesón set off on a trek through the most inhospitable of jungles to rejoin her husband in French Guiana.
