Summary
Captain Laurence lost his ship after bonding with a dragon hatchling, Temeraire, who turns out to be a Celestial, among the very finest of dragons. The Chinese ambassador insists he be returned home, so the two arrive at the Chinese court, where dragons aren't treated as servants or beasts of burden, as they are in Europe, but as lords and princes. A trail of intrigue, begun in London, also follows. Some descriptions of violence. Sequel to "His Majesty's Dragon", followed by "Black powder war" 2006 (Temeraire ; 2)
