Skirt day

A fascinating psychological study and a socio-critical investigation. Sonia Bergerac is a teacher at a tough junior high. Using a real incident with the French Ministry about teachers wanting a "skirt day", the film goes on to examine the need for educational reform and assistance for both teachers and students in crime-ridden, poorer communities. In Sonia's case, she simply wants to teach her class, but the constant barrage of insults, threats, and defiance from the students grows overwhelming. Scared and taking antidepressants, Sonia finds a gun in a bag belonging to one of her students, a local hoodlum and gangbanger. In the struggle to reclaim his weapon from her, she accidentally wounds him. When he and his fellow gangsters then threaten her life and the life of the other students, she breaks, taking some of her students hostage so she can finally teach a proper lesson on Molière. While locked in her classroom, the students begin to understand what they did to cause this situation
